Have you suddenly lost your monthly data on your mobile broadband connection … only to find that Microsoft silently downloaded a huge windows update and used it all?
It’s a common problem as Windows 10 has changed the way the go about updating your computer.
Windows claims that all Mobile Broadband connections are automatically set to metered … but this doesn’t always seem to work.
Setting an Internet connection as “metered” is especially important in Windows 10, since Microsoft is now forcing all users to automatically download updates as they become available. You can’t stop this … unless you’re using a “metered” connection. When that happens, Windows 10 will not automatically download updates. Instead, it lets you manually download them at a later time.

Under Windows 8 settings a connection to "metered" was easy …
In Windows 8 all you needed to do was to:
- Click on the wifi Icon at the bottom right of your screen
- Right click on the connection you were using
- Choose to set it to metered
